The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) is the women’s fund at the United Nations. UNIFEM was created in 1976 by the United Nations General Assembly as a voluntary Fund for the United Nations Decade for Women. The Fund became an organization in autonomous association with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1985.
